I like to dress Max only in Chuck Taylor's.  I think little boys in Chuck's are a must.  They just look so boyish but a little bit punk/skater.  He out grew his last pair and I went cheap with some $5 walmart shoes till I could find him new ones I liked.    
My dearest Carissa just sent me this link to get some super cute Chucks super cheap.  With free shipping and $10 off I ended up only paying $15 for new Chucks!  I can't wait to get them.  I can't even get them off ebay that cheap! Thanks friend!
